The CRC’s research activities provide the basis for an Industry 4.0 compliant networked production: communicating components, sensors and machines – linked with appropriate processes and structures.

In 17 subprojects, 40 scientists are working in an interdisciplinary team, shaping the production of tomorrow. The ten institutes of Leibniz Universität Hannover associated with the CRC 653 are mapping the whole value chain of production. Besides institutes of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the Laser Centre Hannover e. V. is also affiliated to the Collaborative Research Centre.
